‘’Meanwhile, Australia’s wealthiest person Gina Rinehart’s appeal against an ASIC ruling to force her to lodge outstanding financial reports for her private mining company Hancock Prospecting is due for a next week appearance in the coming days.

ASIC pursued the issue after revelations emerged that Ms Rinehart’s billion-dollar resources company had not filed a report in more than two years and had also lodged each of its reports for 2006 to 2009 more than a year late.

In April ASIC rejected Ms Rinehart’s bid for an exemption to Hancock Prospecting’s reporting obligations under the Corporations Act.

Hancock Prospecting has taken the matter to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal’’

Rinehart has been banging on for some time about the excessive costs of labour, tax and bureaucracy in getting mines up and running – and even blamed them as the reason that she sold almost 80 per cent of her stake in Queensland coal prospects to India’s GVK, rather than a lesser amount.

  1. The Alpha coal project is being run by Hancock Coal, 79 percent owned by GVK and 21 percent owned by Australia’s richest person, Gina Rinehart.

    The Alpha project has a mine life of more than 30 years, and would produce 32 million tonnes a year, GVK Vice Chairman G V Sanjay Reddy said.

    “This positive decision also aves the way to ensure more than 1.4 billion people (largely in Asia) that face a major shortage of electricity, are provided with an additional source of coal to enhance supply of electricity to the region, thus improving quality of life and overall economic development,” he said in a statement.
