The Sham of Hiring Contract Workers Australia Wide

This time a lot of the problems stem
from shonky employers using
AustralianBusiness Numbers (ABNs)
in an illegal manner. Workers who are
genuine employees are being forced
to become Sham Contractors by
using an ABN, alleviating the Boss
from paying their entitlements such
as Superannuation, Long Service
Leave, Holiday Pay, Sick Leave,
Redundancy and so on.
To make
matters worse, many employers are
being found paying these ‘sham’
workers as little as $8 an hour. In
turn, this is being used as a weapon
to drive down labour costs which
affects us all – not the least our
children and grandchildren in the
future. Also caught up in this is the
use of Visa workers, many of whom
are being exploited in the same
manner. In the North West of WA,
one group of visa workers were
being paid as little as $3 an hour.
These employer ‘cheats’ are also
tendering using ridiculously low rates”

letter from Kevin Reynolds State Secretary CFMEU C&G WA]
Times like these I think maybe rule 303 applies
While the union is fined .. THE SHAM CONTINUES:
I could not find the details in any Queensland Publication .. this is dated 2011 {UNIONS have been stung with a $65,000 fine by the Federal Circuit Court of Australia for their role in strike action against construction giant Brookfield Multiplex at two Queensland sites including the Gold Coast Hilton project.

Fair Work Building and Construction (FWBC) director Val Gostencnik said the case related to unlawful industrial action taken by the CFMEU and the Communications Electrical and Plumbers Union (CEPU) in February 2011 over alleged sham contracting.

The court was told 37 workers stopped work for a day and a half at the Gold Coast Hilton site after CFMEU representatives told them Brookfield Multiplex was engaged in sham contracting, which involved wrongly treating employees as sub-contractors.

As a result, the worker might miss out on entitlements such as paid leave and superannuation. } recent @

  1. I mentioned government in my piece on this Shamming because they conduct the Legal Systems & fining of the Union that has dared expose this double dealing megga foreign company double dipping, under paying shonky crew.. If they do it here they will do it in other countries, perhaps they have been doing all along..

  2. This is a Huge Company with many more contracts, are we to believe they do business in the same way in all the states or is it just West Australia & Queensland where they believe we are the Dumbest! ”By Eliza Theiss, Associate Editor

Melbourne, Australia—Leading global contractor Brookfield Multiplex has taken yet another bite out of the Australian real estate development market, snagging the construction contract for Far East Consortium’s Upper West Side mixed-use project’s third phase. Brookfield is currently developing Stage Two of the project and has successfully delivered Stage One of Upper West Side Apartments.

Stage Three of Upper West Side consists of 282 residential units and six retail spaces to be housed in a 31-story tower, the third high-rise in the mixed-use development located on the corner of Little Bourke and Spencer Street in Melbourne CBD. The tower will house 234 condominiums with the podium completing the necessary 48 to the total of 282 units. Cottee Parker Architects, the firm responsible for the eye-catching design of the first two phases of the project will handle stage three’s look as well. The tower will feature a precast panel and aluminum-glazed punch window façade, with latter ensuring sound proofing, while the aluminum louvers grant an efficient control of privacy and light within units.”
Reaching further in the slave market.. in facilating services..
”In addition to the NSW Police Force appointment, Brookfield Johnson Controls has been appointed to four other major property portfolios and now supports an additional 36,000 customers and manages an extra 1,760,000 square metres across Australia and New Zealand. Brookfield Johnson Controls has recently engaged close to 100 additional staff to deliver a range of services across these new portfolios.” (Brookfield & Johnson have combine making a Jumbo sub contract enslavement.. so be aware what you sign, you too could be working for as little at $3 an hour!)
